A clan called 'Hindi Music Lovers of Telugu Land'
Yes, it exists - there are so many Telugu people who are into Bollywood music, Ghazals, Hindi Sugam Sangeet in every generation and we happen to be born to one of the clan members!
Our entire knowledge of Hindi Music - Film, Non-Film, Pop, Ghazal, you name it, we got it from our father. Even though he belongs to a proper Telugu Family born and raised in the Telugu land, he had this fascination for Hindi language and music!
And he passed on the legacy to us - so before we knew what language we were singing in, we knew Runa Lailas, Nazia Hassans, Usha Uthups, Pankaj Udhases, and along with these side dishes, the staple food - Bollywood!
Having tasted great music like that, we just took to it and developed the eagerness and love for the music on our own. Knowing the names of the talent we were listening to was a must. So, we started knowing the lyricists, composers, singers, performers while we were growing up.
Our first knowledge of Sri Ravindra Jain!
'Sita Ram Charit Athi Paavan' - remember the title track? Yes, that was the early one of our Ravindra Jain memories.

Some of the best compositions of Ravindra Jain garu were sung by K J Yesudas sir.
And our family's all time favourite movie 'Chit Chor' was a live example of the beautiful combination of RJ & KJ!
Gori tera gaaon may be a romantic song but it was almost like a bhajan when get-togethers happened in the family. Everyone knew this song. And when we explored the other songs from this album, we were really surprised to see that not only RJ sir was the composer but he also penned these songs.
The flavour of his music
Very very Indian - even in the time of Disco and Pop. He started his career in 1970s when western music instruments and tunes ruled the roost. But his songs, his films were so close to Indian nativity that they stood out and became classics.
He used Indian Ragas in his compositions like -
Jab Deep Jale Aana - Raag Yaman / Kalyani Raagam
Sham Teri Bansi - Raag Charukesi
Jo Baithe Charanon mein tumhaare - Raag Darbari Kaanada
Ek Raadha Ek Meera - Raag Kirwani
Ravindra Jain - Maestro of Melody
Imagine a beautiful evening... Sun has started cooling down and now in an artistic mood, turning the sky into a canvas filled with gradients. The evening breeze is so gentle and soothing... the chirping of the birds, all nature just relaxing and in a mood of romance - that is Ravindra Jain's Music for you. Wonder how the lyrics match the tune so perfectly? Because he wrote it!
Jab deep jale aana ..
Jab deep jale aana ..
DDLJ - Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge!
Why are we talking about this iconic film that has achieved a cult status but has nothing to do with Ravindra Jain?
The answer - the 'Title' that created this much hungama has originated from RJ's song from film 'Chor Machaye Shor'. He is also mentioned as co-lyricist in the credits for this song!
And another song which is close to his heart is the 'Ghunghuroo' song from the same film, which he wrote and composed!
